Free curriculum guides now available!
The changes being made to the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum are arguably the biggest since its introduction as a statutory framework 20 years ago. Central to the new approach is a drive to strip down prescribed subject content.
By giving teachers more freedom, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) hopes to offer learners a broad and balanced curriculum with greater coherence between different subjects. Many in the education community have welcomed the changes, including teaching unions and subject associations.
However, many teachers are concerned about how the changes will impact on their day-to-day teaching practice. To make the transition as easy as possible, Pearson Publishing has produced detailed curriculum guides for each subject. Each guide provides a clear comparison between the old (1999) and new programmes of study, listing which elements have been added and which have been removed. The guides are simple, brief and attractively laid out.
“These guides will prove a valuable source of reference for teachers who are having to implement changes to the Key Stage 3 curriculum while balancing a host of other responsibilities. By offering these targeted summaries, we hope to do our bit to ease the pressure.”
