Anthony Pearson
Chairman
Professor J R Anthony Pearson FRS, F.Ass.NAE, FIMMM has split his career between university research and teaching, and industrial research. Starting as an applied mathematician specialising in fluid mechanics, he widened his interests to cover all aspects of mathematical modelling in the chemical industry. In 1982, he joined Schlumberger to help set up Schlumberger Cambridge Research, and has now spent 30 years on oilfield problems. As non-executive Chairman, he has championed an international outlook, and is proud of the way that the business has been driven by a desire to help pupils, teachers and other staff in schools, and educational authorities – in that order – rather than by purely commercial considerations.
