VSH Update

Wishing your young people the best for the new term!
September 2018
Issue 36

Picture

The new academic year is in full swing, and we have plenty of new resources and initiatives to help support care-experienced young people. In this edition of the VSH Update, we take a look at the freshly updated course Designated Teachers, a new training programme to help Virtual Schools support schools where children in care are placed, and a recently published course Promoting Inclusion, written by the Virtual School Head for Wolverhampton.
Rachel Maton, Editor

The CiC-Ready School Programme

This academic year we have launched our new training programme for staff at the schools where children in care (CiC) or those previously in care are placed. The CiC-Ready School Programme is designed to help Virtual Schools meet new responsibilities of ensuring schools can successfully support vulnerable children.

The programme involves providing school staff with key mobile training resource such as Attachment and Promoting Inclusion and gathering essential data about course completion and progress. There is also the possibility of delivering these training courses via bespoke Virtual School-branded apps. Find out more here
or email info@pearson.co.uk.

New updates to Designated Teachers

Picture
We’re pleased to have updated Designated Teachers, which now reflects new statutory guidance for DTs. This course remains a firm favourite with Virtual Schools, providing essential information about the responsibilities of designated teachers and how they can support care-experienced young people.

If DTs already have this publication, they can update it by connecting to wifi, tapping ‘refresh’ in the nimbl menu and then tapping ‘update’. Find out more about Designated Teachers here or email info@pearson.co.uk.

Inclusive teaching with Promoting Inclusion

Promoting Inclusion is a new resource written by Darren Martindale, Virtual School Head for Wolverhampton, which discusses the issues around exclusions and challenging behaviour. Darren explores the key principles and strategies for engaging hard-to-reach pupils, with the aim of helping teachers improve attendance, raise attainment, reduce exclusions and understand how to use Pupil Premium effectively. Find out more here or email info@pearson.co.uk.
