To help learners reflect on their academic and personal development and enable schools to improve their pastoral care, INTEC publishes an easy-to-use, online, learner profiling tool.
INTEC launches an integrated service to help local authorities demonstrate improved outcomes for children and young people across a wide range of programmes using sophisticated data collection, analysis and mapping techniques.
INTEC launches a flexible, user-friendly online survey system, complete with reporting, which allows schools and local authorities to gather information and opinions from stakeholder groups more efficiently and to demonstrate the impact of their provision more readily.
Evidence for Ofsted inspections To help senior leaders in schools meet the challenges of the revised Ofsted Framework, INTEC offers workshops on improved self-evaluation, data gathering and presentation of evidence of improved outcomes for children.
In partnership with FoneFonics, Pearson Publishing develops a series of multimedia learning resources for mobile phones initially designed to help vulnerable groups, including young offenders, immigrant communities and children in care, to improve their literacy or spoken English.
Support for early years settings To help nurseries and other childcare providers prepare for Ofsted short-notice inspections, INTEC introduces an innovative programme of face-to-face support and digital tools.

In response to the growing interest in the Virtual School Toolkit, developed by Pearson Publishing in conjunction with Cambridgeshire County Council, INTEC launches a National Programme for Virtual Schools designed to help improve provision for looked after children.
National leadership and management programmes INTEC and NAPTA collaborate to provide leadership and management programmes under a Government-funded scheme. The first 180 schools to benefit are in the Eastern region; subsequently, the programmes launch nationwide.
INTEC celebrates its tenth anniversary Since its foundation a decade ago, INTEC has become a leading partner for children’s services, both in the UK and elsewhere. It has helped individuals, institutions and larger organisations to implement change successfully during a period of accelerating transformation.
Building Schools for the Future INTEC is appointed by Northgate Information Solutions to provide the change management programme for 11 Kent schools in Wave 3 of the Government’s high-profile Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project.
Effective team leadership for support staff Providing professional development for the increasing number of school support staff who have a leadership role, the Support Staff Team Leaders Development Programme is launched with local authority partners across the country.

Rewarding a crucial contribution Pearson Information launches its first large-scale programmes for the Support Work in Schools (SWiS) qualification, in partnership with local authorities.
Pearson Publishing celebrates ten years of online sales in November – yet another indication of its innovative pedigree.
Taking forward the use of digital resources The publication of Complete School Support, a vast digital resource, helps schools to improve in line with Government targets. Compiled from over 300 publications, it can be accessed in school and at home, and plays an important part in raising attainment and moving schools towards effective VLE use.
Supporting children looked after Pearson Publishing launches an exciting new service to help local authorities in their role as corporate parents. By providing convenient systems to track each child, improve communication between professionals, and support learning out of school, the service can enhance provision, reduce costs and help demonstrate clear progress against key performance indicators.
INTEC introduces ECM Perceptions, a vital tool to help consult pupils on their experiences and views relating to the Every Child Matters outcomes.

NAPTA starts a new project with its 100th local authority partner, further establishing its position as market leader in school support staff professional development.
Pearson Publishing launches the Extended School Survey, an online data gathering, analysis, mapping and reporting system for local authorities and their schools.

Individual membership of NAPTA surges past 10,000 and institutional membership passes 1000. Support staff from schools in over 50 local authorities across England are now involved in the association’s professional development work.
Contributing to the Every Child Matters agenda INTEC launches ECM Profile, a powerful, non-threatening self-evaluation tool based on the Common Core Standards. It is designed to be used by any member of the children's workforce across the education, health, social care, criminal justice, and voluntary and charitable sectors.
In conjunction with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, Pearson Information sets up a national network of centres to deliver staff development programmes. The programmes cover the use of ICT to support pupils with additional educational needs.
Integrated workforce development Following a two-year research project carried out on its behalf by the Cambridge Institute of Technology, NAPTA launches its national Workforce Development Programme to help local authorities, their schools and individual members of support staff meet a range of new challenges.

Pearson Publishing acts as the UK partner for an EU-funded initiative on consumer education. The initiative is aimed at teenagers, is run by Generation Europe and operates in 15 countries, with almost 100,000 special diaries distributed in the UK alone. Once again, technology is at the heart of the project, with address database integration, online ordering and sophisticated, EU-wide delivery all helping it to happen.
In conjunction with Pearson Information, NAPTA and INTEC launch a support staff professional development review system. This powerful online profiling tool is adopted by local authorities all over the country.
Schools can now create their own materials from almost 200 different publications to help support KS3 and GCSE students as they prepare for national tests and exams. Each student receives their own CD-ROM containing dozens of separate digital resources covering up to 14 subjects.

Pearson Information helps launch the National Association of Professional Teaching Assistants (NAPTA) to offer a range of valuable services to teaching assistants, schools, school organisations and local authorities.
Partnering software giant, Microsoft UK, the Group launches an initiative to help schools harness the power of technology in driving school improvement. A combination of seminars, exhibitions and CD-based resources helps hundreds of institutions.
Essential preparation for inspection The Evaluate family of typically innovative and easy-to-use self-evaluation tools becomes available. Schools can use an engaging online system to canvass opinion from staff, students, parents and governors on key school effectiveness issues. Processes that would have taken weeks now take a few hours, thanks to ICT.

First LEA adopts Web-based services Schools right across the City of York use Webstore for Education and Calendar to share resources, publish material, access digital files remotely and plan events online.
Providing a full set of student and teacher resources plus Web-based progress tracking, Complete ICT KS3 gives over 30,000 students the chance to learn more independently, both at home and at school.
In conjunction with the Open College Network, Pearson Information launches Using ICT to Support Learning – a certificated course specifically designed for teaching assistants and other support staff. Delivered both with FE partners and directly through schools, it quickly establishes itself as market leader.

Credit and debit accounts are available to institutions and individuals. Yet another leading-edge application of technology in education, the extensive system allows instant micro-purchasing from a catalogue of thousands of resources at any time and from anywhere.

A triumph of digital publishing, it incorporates a Web-browser interface, a wealth of electronic guides, over 50 pieces of compiled multimedia software, thousands of live Web links and a host of editable digital files.

Cambridge Institute of Technology founded The Cambridge Institute of Technology (INTEC) is founded to act as an advisory, accrediting, awarding and validating body. Andrew Read becomes its principal.
Pearson Publishing proudly releases its 500th title.
Enhance, a termly magazine for ICT professionals in schools, rapidly attracts a loyal following. It offers news, reviews, useful links and a growing bank of downloadable digital files to help stimulate the use of ICT in the classroom.

Pearson Publishing becomes one of the earliest educational publishers in the UK to provide an extensive Web-based catalogue and online purchasing of products. Customers are quick to take up the opportunity.
A new range of administrative software is offered to schools. This helps them to address issues including staff handbook creation, parents’ evening organisation and the preparation of National Records of Achievement.
Group grows with addition of Pearson Information Led by Andrew Read, Pearson Information offers institutional and professional development in the application of technology to teaching, learning and school management.

Pearson Publishing becomes one of the first educational publishers to offer schools digital versions of its resources on CD-ROM, using its innovative ePack technology. This is based around encryption algorithms and unlocking codes that can be emailed to customers.
Pearson Publishing launches its new revision guides for GCSE. These are very competitively priced, sold to students through schools and rapidly capture a significant market share.

Two multimedia CD-ROMs on skiing and fishing are published with BBC commentator Julian Tutt and TV’s ‘Mr Fishing’ John Wilson, to critical international acclaim. To exploit the US market, Pearson Publishing signs a co-publishing deal with the innovative Californian CAMBRIX Publishing Inc.

A global initiative with the UN Working with the UNA-UK, Pearson Publishing produces three separate texts for schools to celebrate the United Nations’ 50th anniversary. The books are made available in the six official languages of the UN: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic, and copies are distributed to Ministries of Education in the 185 member countries all over the world. Ground-breaking work is done using electronic page composition software and complex character sets.
